Creating your GMAT Prep Experience
Each of our students begins with a diagnostic exam to gauge their current score level and to understand their initial strengths and weaknesses in both the verbal and quantitative sections.
Students meet with their instructor, one-on-one, once or twice per week, usually for two hours at a time. At each session:
- Students have the opportunity to discuss questions on their homework and re-assess their overall progress
- New topics are covered or weaker areas are reviewed; tutors make sure that a student has fully mastered each area before moving on
- Specific homework and practice exams are assigned for completion between study sessions
Students who meet their instructors in person generally meet at a public or university library (or a quiet coffee shop).
- Students who have not dealt with high-level mathematics since college (or, often, high school). We have worked with dozens of successful executives who simply haven’t had to multiply exponents in years, if ever. We can take students from a very low level of math aptitude and help them succeed on the GMAT quant section.
- Students who have already taken the GMAT and were unhappy with their score. Next Step has been able to help students improve on retakes up to 150 points by creating a focused plan of study and in-depth coverage of the material. Students often find that they were missing key test-taking strategies; our instructors are adept at finding hidden weaknesses and helping students improve significantly.
We understand how critical the GMAT is to MBA admissions and, thus, your future career. That’s why we provide what we believe is the best prep possible — one-on-one tutoring from a qualified expert.
We have learned that on the GMAT, personal attention matters because each student moves at his or her own pace. While some students need extensive training in basic mathematics, others use those principles in their daily lives. Likewise, while the rigorous logic necessary to succeed in Critical Reasoning comes naturally to some students, other students benefit from a crash-course in basic formal logic. A prep course requires that all students go at the same pace; that disadvantages all students.
Further, we understand that future MBA students generally hold demanding positions and are constantly pressed for time. Individual tutoring allows our students to focus intently on their weaker areas, making more productive use of study time. With Next Step’s GMAT tutoring, there’s no need to sit through a lecture on comma splices if that’s an area you have already mastered.
At Next Step, we understand how critical an excellent GMAT score is in being admitted to top MBA programs. However, we understand that professional GMAT prep is a significant investment. We offer payment plans on either of our packages, with half of the program fee due upfront and the second half mid-way through the course of tutoring. Please contact us for additional details.
We offer the same one-on-one GMAT tutoring services delivered two ways:
- One-on-one live via internet video conference. Please see here for more information about our online tutoring experience. Students who work with us online have access to our most experienced instructors. Our online students have posted score gains equal to or greater than our in-person students.
- In-person in select cities: Chicago, New York, San Diego, Detroit, Atlanta, Columbus, Houston, and Philadelphia.
While many students initially look for in-person services, our online program allows students in smaller areas to work with 3+ year tutoring veterans. We are happy to arrange a complimentary demonstration of the technology — just email us at info@nextsteptestprep.com.
Next Step GMAT Tutoring FAQ
- No — all necessary materials, including prep book and computer-adaptive practice exams, are included in the tutoring fee. Materials are shipped directly to your home or office via USPS Priority Mail.
- We sure think so. Think about it this way — in any other area of your life, have you felt it was more effective to sit in a lecture course than to work individually with an expert? Would you go to the doctor with 20 other patients? Next Step takes GMAT prep seriously — that’s why we offer only the best service.
- We are able to offer one-on-one tutoring services for the price of a prep course because don’t invest in expensive brick and mortar test centers, and we don’t spend tens of millions per year in advertising. Most of our business comes from referrals and word of mouth. When you spend $1,400 on a prep course, the vast majority of that cost is going to the advertising it took to get you there. We think there is a better way.
- Yes. We work with experts who have sat on the admissions committees of top-5 business schools. Please contact us to discuss this option.
- 98% of our students have been pleased with their instructor. However, if for any reason you’re not pleased we can switch instructors or offer a pro-rated refund for unused hours.
